Fine Arts for TUSD Students

The Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts (TACFA), under the guidance of board member Patti DiSaia and in conjunction with the Art Master Elementary Art Education Programs, is bringing the Art Master program to over 1000 TUSD children during the 2007-8 school year. Students in grades K—5th at Lambert and Beswick Elementary Schools will learn about different artists and create grade -appropriate visual arts projects in a series that integrates history, social studies, language, and aesthetics. Story and slide-show assemblies, art practice pages, and in-class art activities introduce students to a variety of artists and cultures within a fun and creative context.

This is the third year that TACFA has brought this program to TUSD schools, with six artists studied over the course of the academic year. This year’s series features Helen Hardin, a modern Native American artist; Rembrandt, the great 17th century Dutch master; Alexander Calder, an American 20th century sculptor; Jacob Lawrence, a modern African American master painter; and the extraordinary Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. Artists are featured in the months of October, January, April, and June, with the first beginning October 23rd.

Art Masters plays an important part in fulfilling TACFA’s mission to the community. TACFA is a philanthropic organization dedicated to developing and fostering the arts in the greater Tustin area through school outreach programs, scholarships for art education, and support and showcasing of local artists.
