TACFA Hosts Student Art Show Awards Ceremony
Talented students from Tustin area middle and high schools participated in the 19th annual Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts (TACFA) Student Art Show, sponsored by the merchants and management of Enderle Center. Many students received cash prizes and ribbons at the awards ceremony hosted by TACFA on April 23 at the Tustin Senior Center, where they were honored by other student artists, art teachers, family members and TACFA members. Diane Aust, President of TACFA, presented the “Best of Show” award to Lucia Fernandez, student of Somer Selway at Tustin High School. Aust said, “Our annual student art show means so much to all of us. The students are encouraged by the recognition given them and the awareness that their art is important to our community. We relish the opportunity to nurture their talent.”
Student entries and winners represented a variety of visual arts from different grade levels and schools. Winners in the various categories are as follows:
Middle School Art: 1st, Allison Goodwin, Elizabeth Sawyer; 2nd, Daniel McNamara, Alexis Pace; 3rd, Eleanor Lee, Joseph Adams; Honorable Mentions, Brandi Steele, Ameera Jaffrey, Daniel Kane, Laura Im.
Graphic Arts and Photography: 1st, Kevin Giglio, Laura Licata; 2nd, Jessica Hellman, Matt Yrad; 3rd, Eric Skirzynski, Monty Espino; Honorable Mentions, Joyce Lau, Alyssa Fioravanti, Melissa Sundquist, Jamie Frey.
Sculpture and 3-Dimensional: 1st, Roger Arizmendi; 2nd, Regina Kraus; 3rd, Mary Le; Honorable Mentions, Robbyn Felix, Jasmyn Hernandez, David Reuter, Monica Lezama, Carlos Garcia, Angela Rapp.
High School 2- Dimensional Art: 1st, Daniel Chang; 2nd, Jennifer Wong; 3rd, Rachel Ison; Honorable Mentions, Panda Hok, Dani Pedroza.
The teachers of these talented students were also honored. Instructors included Karen Akashi (Beckman), Don Carlson (Kirk Miller Studio), Bertha Cardoza (Hillview), Yvonne DeVane (Fairmont), Cheryl Dimson (Tustin), Molly Flanagan (Currie), Jeff Gillette (Foothill), Jennifer Lee (Calvary), Linda Parsons (Columbus Tustin), Faith Peay (Hewes), Mary Jo Rado (Tustin), Art Rausch (Foothill), Somer Selway (Tustin), Dan Shell (Foothill), Lori Spiak (Pioneer), and Diane Truxaw (St Cecilia).
All of the student art entries, including the winning pieces, were on display at the Tustin Senior Center April 17 through April 30.
TACFA is a philanthropic
organization dedicated to developing and fostering the arts in the
greater Tustin area through school outreach programs, scholarships
for art education, support and showcasing of local artists, and
